2009 SEASON QUICK FACTS

  • The Stallions appeared in their 8th overall state championship game

  • DeSales won its 10th Regional Title in school history

  • The Purple and White captured their 3rd straight CCL title (first 3-peat since '96-'98)

  • DeSales won its 20th overall CCL title

  • The Stallions qualified for the OHSAA playoffs for the 16th consecutive season

  • DeSales finished as the #1 seed for the 3rd year in a row

  • Head coach Ryan Wiggins improved to 5-0 vs. Watterson

  • Defensive lineman Travis Jackson was named First Team All-Ohio and D-III Co-Defensive Player of the Year

  • The defense featured 4 Big Ten verbal commitments (Chi Chi Ariguzo - Northwestern, Adam Griffin - Ohio State, Travis Jackson - Michigan State, Chris Rock - Michigan)

  • Defensive end Chris Rock led the Stallions with 15 sacks

  • Adam Griffin finished with over 1,600 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns

  • Quarterback Nick Gentile led the team with 1,301 rushing yards

  • Malcolm Burrell led the Stallions with 180 tackles

  • Evan Killilea (155 ) and Chi Chi Ariguzo (120) also recorded over 100 tackles on defense

Key Stat:

Nick Gentile rushed for 150 yards on a career-high 28 attempts and led a Stallions’ ground attack that out-rushed Watterson 314-103.

For the game, DeSales ran for 339 yards and held Wyoming to 2 yards per carry on 30 attempts.
